A Senior Finance Business Partner had the skills and experience to make a greater impact in his role, but was hindered by his conflict-avoidant nature.  The coaching programme included chair-work and role-play so that the client could work through situations that he initially found very uncomfortable.  He gained greater understanding of his own values, motivations, and feelings, while trying out new approaches in a safe learning environment.  Over time the client became more confident in explaining how strong financial control was necessary to ensure organisation compliance with new regulations, and that his team was critical to ensuring each operating unit understood its role and supported the organisation’s operating plan. With a greater awareness of his impact on others, the client was able to choose operational styles that were more appropriate in each situation.  Feedback from the coaching sponsor confirmed a significant improvement in effectiveness.
