Stakeholder mapping is used to gain a better understanding and a more strategically political view of any given situation. Creating a stakeholder map sharpens your perspective on who you need to influence, how to do it, and who might use their influence on your behalf.
Two important guidelines for stakeholder mapping are:
- Always make a different Stakeholder Map for each initiative.
- As you make progress in your project, revisit your Stakeholder Map periodically and update the position of each stakeholder.
